Ed Melodia: Sculptor

Welcome to Edmelo Designs

I am a sculptor who specializes in original character designs for 2D, 3D, and stop motion animation.

My work reflects my love for cartoons, science fiction, fantasy, and, of course, the many adventures of Gumby and Pokey.

So sit back and enjoy a glimpse into my frighteningly pantless world...

Background

I have been sculpting ever since I was old enough to pop the lid off of a can of Play Dough. While attending college at U.C. Davis I took several art history courses as well as figure drawing and figure modeling. After college I enrolled in a summer session at the Academy of Art College during which time I studied sculpture and figure modeling. In addition, I took an introduction to animation course at the Film Arts Foundation where I shot my first stop motion clips using a video lunchbox.

In the Spring of 1998 I became a production assistant at WildBrain, a San Francisco-based animation studio. I spent over three years at WildBrain. My main responsibility was using a down-shooting camera system called a V.A.S. to test all 2D animation and to compile pencil tests for client review. It was at WildBrain where I gained most of my knowledge of 2D and 3D animation.

Here I am consulting my webmaster/spiritual advisor...
